After Qualification Round II in the EuroLeague only the minimum of eight nations is left before the start of the prestigious Preliminary Round matches after nine federations in the three previous editions. For the first time since 1999 German series champion Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 missed the Preliminary Round of the EuroLeague or rather Champions League and has to move to Qualification Round II in the LEN Trophy. The same happed to the top-seeded team of the new national waterpolo federation of Montenegro, as 2004 EuroLeague finalist VK Jadran Herceg Novi has to continue its international appearance in the LEN Trophy.
