Montreal (CAN), July 16, 2005 – The FINA Bureau awarded the organisation of the 13th FINA World Championships 2009 to the City of Rome (ITA). The other candidates to host this event were Athens (GRE), Moscow (RUS) and Yokohama (JPN).
In the Press Conference following this decision, the FINA President Mustapha Larfaoui underlined the quality of all the bidders and wished the best success to the new organisers. “The difficulty of our choice proves that these four bidders were excellent. FINA is very proud to count on these prestigious candidates. Their effort is the guarantee that the FINA brand and the impact of our sports worldwide is constantly improving”, considered the FINA President.
After Montreal 2005 and before Rome 2009, the 12th FINA World Championships 2007 will be held in Melbourne (AUS).
