One week before the start of the 2005 Men's European Youth Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria) six nations were competiting in the Samartzidis Cup in Chania (Greece). In the final game here on the island of Creta Croatia beat the reigning European champion Serbia and Montenegro 8-7, while Italy gained an 8-6 victory against Germany in the bronze medal game.
